About the Michigan Art Center

The Michigan Art Center is a family-owned art center and we welcome students of all skill levels from first-timers to advanced artists. We also offer opportunities for production potters, who are defined as artists who create work for the purpose of resale (galleries, internet, art fairs, Potter’s Market, etc.).

We strive to offer a fun, educational, and relaxing atmosphere where students ages 16 and over can express their artistic ability in community with other like-minded artists.

The Michigan Art Center offers morning, evening, and Saturday ceramic and sculpture classes; workshops; private parties; and the occasional watercolor painting, pastels, jewelry, and glass fusion classes.

In our ceramics studio, students will use a variety of tools and equipment such as the slab roller, extruder, spray booth, over 20 pottery wheels, and hundreds of texture items such as mats and rollers. Our facility is over 4,500 square feet, and allows you to enjoy a spacious glaze and cleanup area, over 70 glaze choices, large wheel throwing area, cone 10 gas reduction kiln, cone 6 electric kilns, Raku kiln, convenient break area, retail store, lots of shelving space, and a generous amount of open studio time for students to work on their projects.

In our retail store we carry Xiem, MudTools, Groovy Tools, Kemper, and Dirty Girls pottery tools; GR Pottery Forms, and Speedball glazes and underglazes, as well as other supplies needed for class projects.

You don't have to be a MAC Member to take a class, but a MAC Membership will give you discounts on classes, workshops, clay and retail purchases, as well as a free promotional item.

Our students come from all over southeastern Michigan to attend our classes and workshops and we have several couples taking classes together as well as families!

We hope you can join us!
